Research reveals that dog owners do 86% more hours of exercise and cover 75% more miles in distance in a week
Reigate, UK – BSB Products, the UK distributor for Carnilove dog & cat foods, today reveals research that Dog owners do 86% more hours of exercise per week and go 75.5% further in distance (Opinion Matters for Carnilove 2023). They do nearly two more hours of exercise per week than non-dog owners and travel seven more miles per week in distance than non-dog owners. Over the course of the year it’s 93 more hours and 364 more miles.
Exercising with your dog in the countryside is great for both mind and body for humans and dogs. Dog owners look after themselves as well as their dog when they exercise together. Getting out to the park or countryside allows you to switch off and be in the moment – it’s a chance to exercise, relax and bond with your dog.
But the Royal Veterinary College reports that 1 in 14 dogs are recorded as overweight each year (RVC 2021) and 25.9% of adults aged 18 or over in the UK live with obesity and 63.8% are classified as overweight (Gov.uk 2021-22). The risks of obesity for both humans and dogs include heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer.
To get Britain moving and to raise awareness of the benefits to physical and mental health pet food brand, Carnilove is working with SAS hero Billy Billingham to get more people out on adventures with their canine companions.
Billy Billingham said, “I’m best known for testing people to their limits and putting them through their paces but regular exercise is also essential for dogs – it keeps them physically and mentally healthy. Fit, active dogs are much less likely to suffer from problems such as obesity and behavioural issues. I love to exercise with my bulldog Alfie, he makes adventuring into the countryside twice as enjoyable.”
Colin Rodger, CEO of BSB Products that distributes Carnilove in the UK said, “Our research demonstrates the great benefits to our health that dogs can bring, they provide so much joy and rewarding them with interesting walks should be a key part of caring for them. It’s also vital not to forget their nutrition and hydration needs as well as your own. Carnilove has a diet for every dog, made from meats that their ancestors would have enjoyed in the wild with high meat content, vegetables and forest fruits for essential vitamins and fibre and no grains, potato or artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.”
Billy Billingham continued. “I hope Alfie and I can inspire dog owners to keep up the good work, get out and about every day, and go a little bit further and I hope it encourages non dog owners to exercise more regularly. It really is the secret to good health.”
